You have a gift that truly sets you apart from the rest of us.

You write about yourself, about your everyday life, about the simplest things that belong to you. A problem with your teeth that takes over your life, shapes your decisions, makes you vulnerable in your body and in your pain, in your mind, becomes poetry. And it does so with a disarming honesty. It would never occur to me to write about the rashes that keep me awake at night, or my gastritis, or my tattoo. You do, and you do it in an extraordinary way. Because you use exactly the right words, the words that need to be there to explain this experience.

I see much more in it, even things within yourself that you don’t say, and that is your power. You write about a problem, but behind it there is an entire world.

Your comments genuinely make my week, Livio. I always try to make my writing as relatable as I can, so when someone notices the small details behind it all like you have, it really does means a lot. Thank you

“Some discomforts are more gradual than others. Yet they still decide your day.” This is so true. We often imagine pain as something that arrives loudly, but some forms of discomfort enter quietly and slowly begin arranging our lives around them — what we eat, when we move, what we avoid, even how we measure time. A very perceptive piece, Drew.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I really appreciate you reading, Antonio!

I thoroughly enjoyed the feeling you brought to me of acknowledging I do exactly the same as you described in such a way which made it come alive in my mind so vividly. Alongside, the emotions attached to each explanation of the teeth sagas.

Drew Benjamin Wall's avatar

Thank you, Lynz! I’m sorry you can relate to it. Teeth sensitivity really is an absolute shock to the nervous system

I will try and recap the comment that disappeared. I find this poem to be niche only in the way that it went deeper than others. Other than that i found it very much in tour voice, which is very niche in and of itself seeing as nobody else sounds like you :)

Drew Benjamin Wall's avatar

Your reply only just popped up too, Kobi. Thank you very much for taking the time to read the piece man, I always appreciate your feedback!

There is a lot to be said about this piece because it’s centered around a concept people don’t think of often but it really affects us. Food is such a social construct, most events get togethers family time time spent with friends eating is always involved so when you throw the pain and sensitivity aspect into the mix it really does a number on what those occasions mean for you thank you for sharing your thoughts drew :))

Drew Benjamin Wall's avatar

Thank you, Holly. You’re right. Food is such a huge part of connection that when eating becomes painful, it changes everything.
